So, you have been having s^x, but have you ever paused to think about how your body helps you to enjoy all that s^xual activity you so much crave – the “s^xual-response cycle”?
What happens to our bodies when we have s^x?
When our body becomes s^xually aroused and/or you take part in s^xually stimulating activities like actual s^x, kissing, masturbation or any other s^xual contact, a series of events happen, to both males and females.
The order of events in this s^xual-response cycle is divided into four phases:
Excitement – the first phase of s^x is arousal which begins just before the initiating erotic stimulation. MEN: In men, the first signal is the penis which becomes slightly erect. Sometimes, a man’s nipples may also react by becoming erect. WOMEN: In women, the vagina expands begins to self-lubricate and while its outer lips, inner lips, clitoris and the breasts begin to swell. BOTH: At this stage, both men and women experience increased heart rate, accelerated blood pressure and breathing.
Plateau –the next phase continued the phase 1. MEN: The testes are drawn up into the scrotum while the penis goes fully erect as stimulation heightens. WOMEN: With sustained stimulation, the vaginal lips become puffier while the tissues of the walls of the vagina swell with blood and the vagina’s opening narrows. Also, the clitoris seems to recede and the inner lips change colour. BOTH: The most noticeable sign is that breathing and pulse rates quicken and muscles tense.
Orgasm – this stage comes after the action of stage two and doesn’t last long. MEN: In men, seminal fluid collects in the urethral bulb and then semen is ejaculated from the penis while contractions occur. WOMEN: In women, the vaginal walls contract rhythmically. Also, the muscles of the uterus contract. BOTH: Both men and women experience rise in breathing, pulse rate and blood pressure. There is also muscle tension and blood-vessel engorgement reach a peak.
Resolution – after the first three stages, the bodies come to normal state which lasts for a while before the states 1-3 can occur again. It is generally longer for women than men. MEN:For men, the penis returns to its normal flaccid state. The penis needs some time (varying in men of different ages) before it can get erect again. WOMEN: For women, the swollen uterus and clitoris calm and regain their normal positions. BOTH: In both, all swelling recedes and tensed muscles relax.
Now that you know what happens to your body when you have s^x, you would begin to appreciate how intense a process it is.
It takes your entire body and organs to get you from arousal to resolution.
