Oyo Assembly begs Ajimobi to pay pensioners’ entitlements

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday appealed to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi to pay of pension arrears to retirees in the state.

The appeal followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Ona Ara, Mr Azeez Biliaminu, in which he made a passionate appeal for the payment of pensioners entitlements.

In the motion, Biliaminu said some of the pensioners could not afford regular feeding and medication due to their financial constraints.

“The children and wards of pensioners are already overwhelmed by nuclear family responsibilities while some of them are unemployed or under employed.

“I know the governor has been trying in view of the dwindling economy in paying workers’ salaries and pensioners entitlements. These pensioners require adequate regular feeding and medical care which cannot be met without adequate financial strength, ” he said.

The speaker, Mr Michael Adeyemo (APC-Ibarapa East) directed House Committee on Establishments, Labour and Productivity to liaise with state and local government pension boards on the matter.

Also, a Bill of a Law to amend the Oyo State Sports Council passed the second reading on Tuesday.

The bill was read by Mr Kehinde Subair, the Majority Leader representing Ibadan South West 1.

The executive sponsored bill aimes to create a more enabling environment for the state athletes.
