Both players joined their various clubs during the summer transfer window (Fred £52m – Mahrez £60m). But what caught the attention of the fans were the footwear the players decided to rock as they stepped out in style after their Premier League opener over the weekend.
According to the Sun, the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder was spotted wearing a pair of Givenchy sliders valued at about £200 while going to training. The sliders is made with a rubber sole and shaped insole he could be forgiven for wanting comfort while letting his feet breathe. He is temporarily staying in the hotel pending the time he gets his desired apartment in Manchester. The Lowry has long been a popular hotel amongst the Manchester United cohort, with Jose Mourinho even opting to make it his permanent residence. Meanwhile, Man City winger doesn’t seem to care staying in the same hotel popularly referred to as United’s hotel as he was sighted stepping out of the building.
Mahrez, 27, also moved to the city this summer but seemed to feel the chill in Manchester more than Fred and emerged from the hotel wearing a hoodie, complete with its hood up, and a pair of Balenciaga ‘speed trainers.
But the pair were both rocking Philip Plein sportswear- a designer whose outlandish designs are popular with footballers. Mahrez’s trainers will have set the footballer back £495 and despite being an odd shape, they’re likely to be comfortable for the winger who is known for his sense of style. The description on the Balenciaga website hails them ‘comfortable stretch knit sock effect’ and very light weight. Weighing in at only 240g, Mahrez may have chosen to wear the pair before a heavy training session to let his feet recover from their 2-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend. If the former Leicester star were to get them dirty on the streets of Manchester, he can rest assured that they’re wipe-able. NAIJ.com previously reported that Brazil international Fred made his debut for Manchester United in Friday night’s win over Leicester City. And if what happened in the tunnel is anything to go by then Fred is already proving a popular addition with his teammates at his new club, reports the Manchester Evening News. The former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder made his way out of the new-look dressing rooms for his first warm up on home soil. As he was given plenty of encouragement from his new teammates, as the club’s ‘inside Old Trafford’ footage revealed.
