Police arrest Funke Akindele for organising house party despite lockdown

The Nigeria Police, Lagos Command has arrested the popular Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele for holding a house Party despite the lockdown order in the State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Bala Elkana told the reporter in a phone conversation that the actress had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.
The Police PRO said, “Yes, we have arrested Funke Akindele and we are looking for the others. She has been taken to SCID.”

The Actress held a birthday party in honour of her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz in their home in AMEN Estate.
The house party had in attendance, the popular musician ,Azeez Fashola,popularly known as Naira Marley and over 20 others.
Funke Akindele later apologised through her social media handle ,stating that most of the attendees were temporary residents of the estate who could not return to their various homes due to covid-19 pandemic lockdown directive in Lagos state.
The Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020 prescribes a jail term of one month or a Fine of N100,000 or both for persons found guilty of hosting a gathering or flouting the lockdown order.
The Regulations reads in part, “Where there is a violation of a close-down or stay at home order, security Agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person who violates the closedown or stay at home order for at least forty-eight (48) hours.
“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of one Hundred Thousand Naira fine (N100,000.00) or one (1) month imprisonment or three (3) months Community service.”
Several Nigerians on the social media condemned Akindele’s act of disobedience and also called on the Law enforcement Agency to take necessary disciplinary actions.
Funke Akindele has appeared on several adverts sponsored by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Dettol, advising Nigerians to observe social distancing and hygiene.
