River United beat Uganda’s KCCA 2:1 in Confed Cup

By Femi Adefioye, Lagos
Nigeria’s Rivers United have defeated Uganda’s Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA), 2-1 in a match day 4 encounter of the Confederations Cup on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
The win means the Nigerian side have obtained six points from four matches, FUS Rabat of Morocco also have the same number of points, but goal difference has moved Rivers from the bottom of the table to the second position behind the Morocco side which has a better goal difference.
The victory followed a pattern that has been established in the group as home teams have all won their matches. But Rivers United remain the only side to have scored in all matches, having put in a goal in the away matches in Tunisia and Uganda.
The shape of the table might however change when Club Africain of Tunisia hosts FUS of Morocco later on Tuesday night.
What initially promised a river flow of water was almost threatening to be a heart breaking episode as Rivers United merely struggled to maintain the 2-1 slim.
They had started with fury, scoring in the second minute through Bernard Ovoke. The Nigerian side doubled the lead in the 15th minute Frederick Obomate and it appeared a low of goals was imminent.
Soon it dried up as KCCA pulled a goal back through Serunkuma Geoffrey almost at the dot of half time.
